| Review of the week:- Over 50 Reed Buntings came in to roost at Longueville Marsh on the 20th and 7 Mandarin Ducks were also present.On the 21st 50+ Reed Buntings at Grouville Marsh, 200+ Lapwings, 40 Golden Plovers, 2 Wigeon and a Merlin all seen at the sandpits. 24th, 4 Marsh Harriers, 25 Shoveler and 16 Pochard at St Ouen's Pond. 25th, 33 Teal and a Bittern at the Pond, 352 Lapwings, 29 Golden Plover and 3 Little Grebes in the sandpits. |

| 58 Red-breasted Mergansers of the south-east coast, 12 Black Scoters in Grouville Bay and a Great Northern Diver, the first of the winter. A single Slavonian Grebe was present just offshore at Le Hocq and the colour-ringed Med Gull, C9T was seen again at Gorey Slip. |

| Two colour-ringed Great Black-backed Gulls, both adults, seen today at Petit Port. One ringed in Jersey on Les Ecrehous and the other ringed as a chick, at Mannevoerskjoer, Mandal, Vest-Agder, Norway in June 2001. This individual was also observed at Zeebrugge, Belgium, in June 2002. |

| On the sandpits today:- 2 Gadwall, 18 Shoveler, 16 Pochard, 27 Tufted Duck, 3 Little Grebe, 8 Cormorant, 75 Coot, 240 Lapwing and 21 Golden Plover. |

| Today at La Rocque:- 57 Red-breasted Mergansers, 4 Sandwich Terns, 2 Purple Sandpipers and 2 Black Redstarts. |

| Review of the week:- Starting on the 9th, when 3 Snow Buntings were present on St Catherine's Breakwater and a Merlin was seen at Grouville Marsh. 10th, 3 Purple Sandpipers at La Rocque. 14th, 16 Pochard on St Ouen's Pond, 30 Fieldfares in St John, 11 Mandarin Ducks and 75+ Reed Bunting at Longueville Marsh. 15th, 23 Greenshank at the roost in Queen's Valley, 20 Great Crested Grebes in Grouville Bay and 11 in St Aubin's Bay. Finally the first winter Brent count took place yesterday, results as follows:- St Catherine to Gorey 58 Gorey to Le Hurel 90 Le Hurel to La Rocque 186 La Rocque to Le Hocq 135 Le Hocq to Green Island 25 Green Island to La Collette 120 Rec site to Bel Royal 65 Bel Royal to Bel Croute 111 Petit Port to Le Braye 25 Le Braye to Le Pulec 81 Total 896 |

| 35 Pale-bellied Brent Geese were seen at West Park over the weekend. Black Redstarts are on the increase, with 3 at La Rocque plus singles at Les Quennevais, Le Pulec and even on the roof of the control tower at the airport! 220 Lapwing were in the sandpits today along with 14 Golden Plover, with a further 28 Lapwing at Les Landes. Finally an "interesting" Starling, possibly a partial albino, or something even better, was reported today on the beach behind Grouville Golf Course. Anyone for a walk? |

Review of the week:- 49 Shovelers were on the sandpits on the 29th October and 12 Pochard on the 31st. 6 Black Scoters were offshore in Grouville Bay on the 4th November, 3 Red-breasted Mergansers on the 31st October and the first Red-throated Diver of the winter passed La Coupe also on the 31st. A single Slavonian Grebe was present at La Rocque Harbour on the 26th and up to 13 Great-crested Grebes were offshore in Grouville Bay. An English ringed Kestrel was found dead in Vallee des Vaux on the 31st and Merlins were seen on the 29th at Les Landes du Ouest and 31st at La Coupe, with a Peregrine at Le Pulec on the same date. Lapwing numbers have increased with 85 at the sandpits and 25 at La Hougue Bie on the 31st, 160 on the 2nd, along with 6 Golden Plover, and 212 on the 4th. 14 Bar-tailed Godwits were present in Grouville Bay on the 3rd, a single Spotted Redshank on the 4th and 33 Greenshank were counted at the roost, behind the dam in Queens Valley on the 31st. An unidentified Skua was seen offshore in Grouville Bay on the 2nd and 3 Sandwich Terns on the 3rd, with single Adult Med Gulls at La Coupe on the 30th and 31st. The last Swallows were seen on the 3rd, with singles noted at Portelet and La Rocque, a Water Pipit was seen at St Ouen's Pond on the 28th and 2 Black Redstarts including a superb male were behind the sea wall at La rocque on the 24th, with the last Wheatear at the same location on the 29th. Firecrest numbers have increased with reports from several locations, including Queen's Valley, 4 on the 3rd. Chaffinches are also on the increase with hundreds moving on the 3rd, good numbers of Siskin also with 20+ on the 1st and 16 on the 2nd at Queen's Valley. Finally a single Waxwing was present in a garden in St John's Village from the 26th to the 28th, but has not been relocated. |
